LIGNA Conference 2016, Hannover – Review
The inaugural LIGNA Conference was held on 3 and 4 May 2016 in the Robotation Academy at the Hannover Exhibition Center, Germany. It rapidly attracted 140 participants from 10 nations, effectively booking the venue to capacity weeks in advance. The conference provided answers to the questions of why it is becoming increasingly important to develop new business processes, and how digital transformation will affect the various interfaces within and between development, production and sales. It also presented examples of companies that had already successfully implemented Industry 4.0 projects. The clear message to emerge from the conference was that Industry 4.0 is relevant for firms of all sizes. In fact, it will play a pivotal role in enabling smaller firms to achieve the level of specialization they need in order to keep their production efficient and profitable.
